When I was 8 years old, my parents used to take my sister and I to the local park after church every Sunday afternoon. I vividly remember the smell of the freshly cut grass, the cool breeze blowing through my hair and the clear bright sky. My mom would usually buy us ice treats which my sister and I ate in one bite, my dad would push us on the swing and we would always beg him to swing us higher, while trying to reach out for the sun. We stayed until the sun sets. One particular Sunday, we stayed until the moon was up and the stars bright.
As a kid, I never really took the time to actually look at the stars and marvel at its beauty. I've never seen anything so beautiful. I recall lying on the slide, my parents sitting on the bench and my sister on the swing. I never wanted to leave, it was all too perfect. "Could we sleep here tonight?" I uttered. My parents smiled and said "it's time to go".
I've never been to that park since.
Have you ever thought how underneath the very same moon and stars, billions of memories live? The first kiss underneath the big bright moon, every single wish upon a falling star and every promise made in the dark cold nights.
Every time I look up the sky, I get reminded of that 8 year old kid in the park. Every time I see those very same stars, I smile. Because not long ago, I was underneath it, in the one memory of my parents being together, in the one memory where I'm happiest.
Though, it's kinda ironic how your most blissful memory could also be your saddest, it's this kind of memory that matters most. Because despite all the sadness and hurt, underneath it all is love.
Look up the sky. what do you see?
